Interview with J. B. Floyd concerning his experiences as owner and President of Schmitz-Floyd-Hamlett Funeral Homes, Inc. in Denton, Texas. Floyd discusses his family background, Denton in the 1920s, his employment as a taxi cab driver for the Dixie Motor Company in 1935, the effects of the Depression in Denton, his employment in his grandfather's furniture store in 1937, and his employment with Schmitz's Funeral Home in 1938. He also talks about the embalming process and the ambulance service, the departure of Jack Schmitz from the company in 1947, the geographical areas served by the funeral home, area cemeteries, and the personnel and financing of the business. Floyd shares his views on advertising, the legal requirements for the burial operation, the advantages of operating a family business, funeral expenses, and his civic activities.
